Andy Murray into the last eight of the Madrid Masters

13 April 2012

Andy Murray came through two tight sets to beat Croatia's Marin Cilic 7-5, 7-6 today and progress to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters.

The world No4, playing in his first tournament since Britain's Davis Cup defeat by Austria, trailed for most of the first set. But he saved three set points at 5-4 down and then broke 6ft 6in Cilic for a second time to wrap it up.

The second set went with serve until the British No1 broke to go 5-3 up. He immediately dropped his own serve but sailed through the tie-break, taking it 7-2, and will now face either American Andy Roddick or Gael Monfils, of France.

Murray occasionally flexed his knee but said: "At the beginning of the second set it felt a little better."
