Anderton wants to stay at Spurs

Darren Anderton says he hopes to stay at Tottenham and wants the club to reopentalks about a new contract.

Anderton met with club officials in the summer to discuss an extension to his contract but nothing was decided and the player hopes talks will resume as soon as a successor to sacked Glenn Hoddle is installed.

Anderton, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was linked with a move to Portsmouth during the summer.

He said: "It is up to the club to come and talk to me about a new contract. It is difficult for them at the moment with the caretaker manager in charge. But I am enjoying my football and if I continue to play well then a contract will follow.

"If you are doing well then the club will want you to stay, and I certainly want that."
