Alonso holds off Hamilton

Fernando Alonso led a processional McLaren one-two around Monte Carlo, leaving team-mate Lewis Hamilton to wait another day for his maiden Formula One victory.

The reigning world champion had to withstand a charging Hamilton at one stage late on in the 78-lap race before claiming the 17th victory of his career.

With no way past on the tight, twisty street circuit, Hamilton was forced to settle for second place for the fourth successive race, finishing four seconds adrift. Ferrari's Felipe Massa was third.
