Allen needs new blood

Martin Allen will use the cash saved from last week's clear-out to strengthen Brentford's squad.

The club made salary savings by releasing striker Steve Claridge, defender Matt Somner, goalkeeper Alan Julian and coach Billy Whitehead.

Allen said: "We have cut costs and are looking and talking to people both for now and for next season."

Stephen Hunt's penalty secured a win over MK Dons to keep Brentford in the League One play-off pack.

Allen added: "We knew it was going to be a tricky game, but we showed character and determination."
