Gabriel Agbonlahor has been ruled out of England's friendly with Spain at Wembley on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

The Aston Villa man was hoping to win his fourth cap but suffered an injury in training on Thursday.

While the damage is not thought to be serious, it was decided to send Agbonlahor back to Villa for further treatment, ending his chances of facing the world and European champions.

"Gabriel Agbonlahor has this morning returned to Aston Villa," confirmed the FA. "Having been assessed by the England medical staff, Agbonlahor is unable to train today at Wembley and has returned to his club."

The England players and coaching staff held a two minutes' silence in the Wembley centre circle in honour of Remembrance Day before undertaking their final training session ahead of the game.

Skipper John Terry stood alongside head coach Fabio Capello while Frank Lampard, tipped to wear the armband if Terry is not selected, was next to Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce.

Whether Terry plays any part may depend on the fitness of Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka who has a fractured toe.

He was able to take part in the training session open to the media and jogged around the pitch with club team-mate Leighton Baines.

But whether he is fit enough to participate against Spain will not be revealed until Capello stages his pre-match media conference.
