Adlington promises to shine in London with more medals

Capital gains: Rebecca Adlington

Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington has promised to deliver more swimming medals at the London Olympics.

The 19-year-old, who added the 800 metres freestyle title to her 400m gold, said 2012 remains her "main target".

Adlington, from Mansfield, has proved the big surprise in Team GB's success story, breaking a 19-year-old world record on her way to 800m gold on Saturday. She said: "2012 was always my main target and not Beijing because I am only 19. Not many people come to their first Olympics and win a medal so this Olympics was just about experience.

"It was about getting involved in the racing and getting that under my belt. There is going to be more to come in London. "It's going to be the greatest experience any British sportsman will have."
