Adams ousted by Webster

12 April 2012

World number one Mark Webster ended Martin Adams' reign as world darts champion with a thrilling semi-final victory at Frimley Green.

The Welshman held off a superb comeback from the England captain to go through to Sunday's final 6-4.

He will take on Simon Whitlock for the BDO title after the Australian overcame 11th seed Brian Woods 6-3.

Webster told BBC Sport: "I went three sets up and felt confident but then he came back and I thought I had gone.

"I just plugged away and worked my way back in. I am thrilled, made up. I can't believe it."

Whitlock, a semi-finalist back in 2005, said afterwards: "I just feel happiness and relief - it's hard to explain but it's a great feeling.

"He came back well but all I said to myself was play the big legs well and I'd win, and I did that."
