Comic Russell Brand yesterday said he was offended by his reputation as a womaniser and just wants a girlfriend.

The 31-year-old presenter also claimed success has not made him happy and out of the limelight he is "shy and awkward".

The report follows a row with singer Rod Stewart last week at the GQ magazine awards where Brand was named most stylish man of the year.

Brand, whose previous girlfriends include Kate Moss, boasted on stage that he had "had a go" at Stewart's 27-year-old daughter, Kimberley.

When the rocker publicly challenged him moments later, Brand said he had "never touched her" and they just had dinner together.

The comic also said he was upset that singer Dannii Minogue had reportedly called him a "vile predator".

He added: "That's out of order. I'm just a man. I'm a bit chatty. I like girls. I'd like to get a girlfriend."
