Hip-hop mogul Sean 'P Diddy' Combs is being sued over a £160,000 advance payment for a book he never wrote.

Publisher Random House says the rap artist agreed to write his autobiography in 1999 but it has yet to receive a manuscript or have its advance returned.

Combs's publicist said he hoped for a resolution 'without litigation'.

'We anticipate this will be resolved quickly,' added Rob Shuter.

According to court papers filed in the US, Combs arranged on his own to collaborate on the book with writer Mikal Gilmore - but the December 1999 deadline to submit a manuscript passed.

In early 2000, Random House told the singer he breached a contract and demanded the return of the advance. Combs, in turn, sued Gilmore for quitting the project but dropped the case in 2004.
