The Maccabees have announced that they are splitting after 14 years together.

The British indie rock band, based in London, confirmed that they were parting ways in a statement released on Monday.

Orlando Weeks, Hugo White, Felix White, Rupert Jarvis and Sam Doyle, who have released four albums together, insisted that there had been no ‘falling out’.

The statement, posted on their official Facebook account, read: “After 14 years as a band we have decided to call it a day.

“The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now.

“We are very proud to be able to go out on our own terms, at our creative peak and off the back of the best and biggest shows we have ever done.”

It continued: “There have not been fallings out and we are grateful to say that we are not leaving the group behind as a divided force.

“It has been rare and absolutely incredible time that we all feel very lucky to have shared.”

The band went on to thank their fans for years of support and confirmed that they would be playing a series of ‘farewell celebration shows’ in the ‘near future’.

The band have been together since 2002 and rose to fame in 2007 with the release of debut album Colour It In.

They released their fourth and final album, Marks to Prove It, on July 31 last year, reaching number one in the UK charts.
