Fans of The Crown have called out the royal drama's portrayal of Kate Middleton's mother as they likened her to 'momager' Kris Jenner.

The second half of the final season, a fictionalised retelling of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, sees the beginning of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s blossoming romance whilst at St Andrew's University in Scotland.

The drama suggests that the Princess of Wales’ mother Carole Middleton, a former British Airways flight attendant-turned-entrepreneur, helped orchestrate their relationship.

And now viewers have drawn parallels between the Princess of Wales’ mother Carole Middleton and Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner for her attempts at “matchmaking” the future couple.

Reacting to the storyline, one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Kate Middleton’s mom is the British Kris Jenner.”

Another remarked: “Carole Middleton walked so Kris Jenner could run.”

“Kate’s Mum is our Kris Jenner,” a third added while a viewer commented: “Carole Middleton is the original Kris Jenner”.

However not all viewers saw the comparison with some claiming the portrayal of Carole is unfair, a fan penned: “A reminder that Carol plotting to get Kate in [to St Andrews] is the misogynistic take the upper class had when they got together.”

While another shared: “I’m hating this predatory depiction of Kate Middleton and her mum.”

This isn't the first time comments have been made about Middleton’s reported role in setting up her daughter with the royal.

In the book, Palace Papers, royal reporter Tina Brown suggested that she persuaded her daughter’s to reject her acceptance to the University of Edinburgh, before taking a gap year and re-applying to St Andrews in 2001.

Brown wrote: “It is unlikely Kate would be where she is today without her mother’s canny help in negotiating a royal romance.

“Carole’s fingerprints are all over Kate’s first move on the royal chessboard.”
