Robbie Williams' troubles continued tonight as his latest single failed to make an impression on the top ten, while his former band Take That held on to their number one slot.

The band, who had a meteoric rise back to fame last year after re-forming minus Williams, made it to a second week at the top of the singles chart with Shine.

But the shine seems to have gone from their one-time bandmate's career because his latest offering, a collaboration with The Pet Shop Boys called 'She's Madonna', limped in at 16.

They can't stop shining: Take That are top of the singles charts for a second consecutive week

It is a far cry from the days when Robbie was riding high in his solo career as the rest of Take That languished in the wilderness after sensationally splitting in 1996.

Williams checked into rehab on his 33rd birthday last month and spent three weeks in an Arizona clinic battling his addiction to prescription drugs.

His spokesman said last week that he had now left the clinic, which is one of the toughest in the U.S., and is continuing treatment with an after-care programme in Los Angeles.

'Shine' is Take That's second single since they stormed back into the charts last year, in one of the most successful comeback's in pop history.

Their album 'Beautiful World' is also at number three in the album charts, falling one place from last week, and a sell-out arena tour is set for later this year.

Kaiser Chiefs also managed to hold onto their spot as number one album with 'Yours Truly Angry Mob', ahead of 'Neon Bible' by Arcade Fire, a new entry at number two.

Russell Watson was a new entry at four with 'That's Life', followed by Bryan Ferry at five with 'Dylanesque' and Cascada's' Everytime We Touch' - The Album at six.

In the single's chart, Gwen Stefani ft Akon rose one place to number two with 'The Sweet Escape' but couldn't push Take That from the top slot.

Kaiser Chiefs and 'Ruby' was down one to number three, with Justin Timberlake and 'What Goes Around Comes Around' climbing six places to four.

Fray with 'How to Save a Life' was a non-mover at five, while Mika fell two places to number six, just ahead of Camille Jones and Fedde Le Grande at seven with 'The Creeps'.

Kelis dropped two places to number eight with 'Lil Star', with Gossip and 'Standing in the Way' of Control at nine and Nelly Furtado at 10 with 'Say It Right'.
