She infamously made her name admonishing Matthew Modine naked from the waist down in Robert Altman's 1993 movie Short Cuts.

Now, 15 years later, mother-of-two Julianne Moore remains unrepentant about onscreen nudity and looks anything but mumsy in a stunning new photo-shoot.

The 47-year-old scrapes her trademark red locks back for her striking new look as she poses in a series of raunchy black outfits.

In one of the shots for Wonderland magazine, Julianne squats in a provocative pose in a pair of sky-high platform boots, Marc Jacobs trousers and a Wolford body.

In other arty shots, the actress reveals her inner passion as she shouts at the camera.

Aside from her controversial role in Short Cuts, Julianne has also shed her clothes in Boogie Nights and the recent Savage Grace.

But she has no regrets about stripping in front of the camera, and fails to see what all the fuss is about.

She says: 'People ask all the time if sex scenes and nudity are hard. What’s hard? Not the lines or the physicality, but the emotion.'

In her next film, Blindless, Julianne plays a doctor's wife who is immune to an epidemic of blindness which sweeps a society.

The actress has been married to filmmaker Bart Freundlich, who is 10 years her junior and cast her in his 1997 film The Myth Of Fingerprints, since 2003.

The director finds his wife's fascination with dark material unsettling.

Julianne explains: 'He thinks I’m weird. There was a script I read recently where I was like, "Oooh, this horrible thing happens and it’s really good and then they’re all dead!"

'He’s like, "What is the matter with you?" I’m like, "I don’t know but I like it." I’ve always liked things that are meant to terrify.

'When I was a kid, I used to watch this vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows. I loved that show… and I was little! I can remember my sister going into the other room to fold laundry with my mother because she was so frightened. I guess it has translated into the material I want to do as an adult.'
