A true lady will always ensure she is properly dressed in public.

And the immaculate Anna Friel normally dresses with due care and attention.

But when at a party this week, she shocked some guests after appearing to have forgotten to wear underwear.

Spending an evening at the Diesel U Music Awards in East London the 30-year-old wore a stylish mini dress and matching gold sandals.

Perhaps it was a trick of the light, but to some it appeared, however briefly, that the mother of one had decided to forgo her underwear.

Another guest described how onlookers saw far too much when Miss Friel's hemline rode up her thigh as she crossed her legs while at the event in Shoreditch Town Hall.

But a consensus eventually emerged - with onlookers believing that she was wearing flesh coloured underwear.

He said: "She could have been wearing really neutral coloured underwear.

"In some lights it can really look like you are wearing nothing.

"I think that's more likely as she is too ladylike for that sort of thing."

If Miss Friel had gone commando this week she would be following in the footsteps of party girls Lindsay Lohan and Kate Moss.

And she would have something in common with pneumatic glamour model Jordan, real name Katie Price, who has been known to 'forget' to wear underwear.

The actress has courted controversy in the past with a notorious lesbian kiss when she played Beth in Brookside back in 1994 and high octane nights out with Kate Moss.

The brunette looked however to be giving all that up, settling down with actor partner David Thewlis and their one-year-old daughter Gracie.

But if she has indeed gone commando, Miss Friel, who is starring in a film called 'Angel Makers' out next year, may be contemplating a return to her wild youth.

The Diesel U Music Awards give unsigned hip hop and rock artists a chance to play in front of big industry bosses, and previous musicians to get noticed include Mylo.
