Rolling Stones push boat out and charter £27,000 ferry

They may be practically OAPs but The Rolling Stones sure know how to cause a splash.

The rock 'n'roll superstars headlined the Isle of Wight festival and made sure everybody on the island knew they were coming.

Jagger, Richards and co spent a massive £27,000 chartering a car ferry from Portsmouth to the island - because they didn't want to be bothered by the locals, or the other bands for that matter.

They ferried four huge trucks over with all of their equipment and brought a massive 200-strong entourage with them.

They didn't plan on hanging around either: the four-piece band and their celebrity pals hopped back on their specially chartered ferry after their gig and headed back to Keith Richards' house in West Wittering, West Sussex.

The superstars, who haven't played a festival in over 30 years, landed on the island yesterday afternoon at about 4pm and made their way to the site in Newport, where they closed off the Premiere Travel Inn on site for their dressing rooms.

All of the other bands were all kicked out and moved into specially erected tents away from the hotel so the Stones could have the entire place to themselves.

A source said: "It's the first time ever that one band has come in and told everybody else to get out. But it is the Stones, so what do you expect?".

The Stones also caused a scene by hiring their own security team, who were ruthless to say the least, and setting up their own pub - The Rattlesnake.

The source added: "Everywhere the Stones go on tour they set up their own pub called the Rattlesnake, it's a tradition.

"They built a special tented walkway from their dressing room to the bar so nobody could even catch a glimpse of them."
