Kate Hudson is nothing if not versatile – at least when it comes to fashion.

The star transformed from elegant red carpet darling to party-ready frock star in no time at all while in London to promote her new movie Fool's Gold last night.

She began the night in a spectacular full length John Galliano gown for the film's premiere Leicester Square.

But the night wasn't without at least one fashion hitch.

The source of the faux pas was a blue replacement for the traditional red carpet at the premiere; the aggravating feature her dress, a shimmering confection of turquoise green and gold.

"I don't think it sets a bad example. The examples I set are just how I am with my family and nobody knows that but me, my closest friends and family."

Fool's Gold tells the story of a married couple, played by Miss Hudson and McConaughey, who are almost torn apart by the husband's obsession with the Queen's Dowry, 40 chests lost at sea in 1715.

The blue carpet was picked to tie in with the seafaring theme.
