The family of musician Prince have asked President Donald Trump to stop playing his music at campaign rallies.

The late rock star’s track Purple Rain has been frequently played at Mr Trump’s rallies including one last week in Southaven, Mississippi.

A statement from Prince’s half-brother has expressed opposition to the use of any of his music by Mr Trump.

It said: “The Prince Estate has never given permission to President Trump or the White House to use Prince’s songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately.”

The rock star was 57 when he was found dead in an elevator at his home in Paisley Park on April 21 2016.

An autopsy revealed he died of an accidental dose of fentanyl, which is a drug 50 times more powerful than heroin.

There is a long list of musicians who have banned Mr Trump from using their tracks at presidential rallies.

Adele, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and REM have all banned the use of their music.

Elton John once said: “I’ve met Donald Trump, he was very nice to me, it’s nothing personal, his political views are his own, mine are very different, I’m not a republican in a million years. Why not as Ted f****** Nugent? Or one of those f****** country stars? They’ll do it for you.”
