The daughter of Phil Spector says her father is wasting away in prison and that she feeds him junk food when she visits.

Spector, 73, is serving 19 years at California State Prison in Corcoran for murdering 40-year-old B movie actress Lana Clarkson at his Los Angeles home in 2003. She was shot in the mouth.

Nicole Spector, 30, said every time she sees her father he “looks thinner, wispier”. Despite the millions made from a succession of hit singles, she says the legendary music producer relies on food from prison vending machines when she visits.

Writing in the Times, Ms Spector said: “As soon as I get into the visiting centre, I rush to the vending machines to select meals for my dad. I usually blow the whole $50 we’re allowed to bring in then and there. It’s a wonderful feeling watching all that food drop down, knowing it will go into my father’s body, nourishing him. These times with him are one of the closest things I have left to what it was like with him at home.” Spector was sentenced in 2009. He will be 88 before he can be considered for parole.
