Paris Hilton has revealed that she underwent an abortion in her 20s while sharing her support for the ongoing fight for women’s reproductive freedom.

The Simple Life star, 42, spoke openly about her experience and admitted she held off discussing it publicly because there was “so much shame around” it.

However, Hilton said it was “important” to speak about it following the overturning of Roe v Wade, which has led abortion to become illegal in parts of the United States.

She told Glamour UK: “This was also something that I didn’t want to talk about because there was so much shame around that. I was a kid and I was not ready for that.”

The heiress, who has become outspoken activist in recent years, continued: “I think it is important. There’s just so much politics around it and all that, but it’s a woman’s body… Why should there be a law based on that? It’s your body, your choice and I really believe in that.

“It’s mind-boggling to me that they’re making laws about what you do with your reproductive health, because if it were the other way around with the guys, it would not be this way at all.”

While sharing her personal experience, the reality TV star was asked about her family’s friendship with former president Donald Trump, who placed the Supreme Court judges that overturned abortion access.

In response, she suggested that the Hilton family no longer has a relationship with Trump, replying, “Not any more”.

In the same interview, she also spoke about the abuse she endured at a Utah boarding school as a teen, as well as being groomed by one of her teachers aged 15.

The star also opens up about her experiences of sexual assault, abuse and much more in her upcoming autobiography, Paris: The Memoir.

Her comments comes almost a month after she announced that she had her first child, a son named Phoenix, with husband Carter Reum.

The heiress revealed she welcomed the newborn via surrogate, having decided to keep the news private until a week after his arrival.
