Police will take no further action against Pete Doherty after the rock star's latest arrest, Scotland Yard said.

The Babyshambles frontman and two other men were arrested in Hackney, east London, on Saturday but Doherty and one of the men were later released without charge, a police spokesman said.

He added that Doherty and the other released man had not been held overnight, and that there would be no further action taken against them.

The third man arrested was named as Redouane Aalit, 35, who is unemployed and lives in Hackney.

He has been charged with failing to stop for police, driving without due care and attention and not having a test certificate, insurance or driving licence.

Aalit will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court tomorrow, the spokesman said.

Doherty's latest brush with the law came as the BBC said that he is banned from appearing on its children's television programmes.

A spokeswoman said: "Pete Doherty is well known for his drug-taking and criminal behaviour. As such, he is currently not an appropriate guest for CBBC."

She said that the singer is not deemed suitable for shows made for seven to 10-year-olds, ruling out programmes including the Saturday music show TMi and Blue Peter.

But she added that it was not a blanket ban across the network, and editorial judgements should be made with the target audience in mind.

The ban emerged during an interview with Newsround editor Tim Levell on the BBC's review programme Newswatch, when he was asked about the "Doherty phenomenon".

Mr Levell said: "On Newsround, we have an informal agreement not to cover Pete Doherty at all - in fact across the whole of BBC Children's TV, he is not covered.

"If his management got in touch and asked if he could be a guest on the Saturday morning show, at the moment we would say no because we don't think he is a good role model for children."

Doherty, 27, is now more well-known for his battle against drug addiction and his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss than for his singing career.

But he has apparently quashed once and for all rumours that the couple are set to marry by declaring that he doesn't believe in marriage, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Doherty is quoted as saying: "I'm never getting married. I don't believe in it. Kate and I are in love - I worship her - but we're not going down the aisle. I'm happy the way it is."

He added: "You know, we're committed", but would not comment directly on rumours the pair made a formal commitment to each other in a private beach ceremony in Thailand.
