Britons buy more CDs than any other nationality, figures show. We bought an average of 3.2 CDs a head last year, compared with just 2.8 a head in the US.

While global CD sales fell by 15 per cent, those in Britain soared by 3.4 per cent, the British Phonographic Industry said.

More than half the population aged 12 to 74 bought at least one album.
