Heavily pregnant Natasha Kaplinsky is preparing for the arrival of her bundle of joy, with the help of a little friend.

At a country fair at the weekend the newsreader took the chance to practise her mothering skills with her friend's young son.

While his mother stood by Natasha hopped onto a ride with the toddler, who smiled in delight as they trundled around.

The 35-year-old opted for a casual outfit - including a dark top that wouldn't show marks from sticky little fingers.

But the newsreader is making no compromises with her diet. Despite being surrounded by fast food at the Barcombe Mills Country Fair in East Sussex, she ate fruit salad.

And although many  women in her condition would be waddling along in the comfort of tracksuit bottoms and trainers, Natasha is making few concessions.

With her bump becoming increasingly prominent, the heavily-pregnant newsreader dubbed 'Spangles' recently stepped out in a pair of shiny red stilettos.

She was seen leaving her London home in the vampish shoes, a smart white shirt and dark trousers.

Her refusal to dress down will be no surprise to her new employers Channel Five, since Miss Kaplinsky was famously reluctant to wear jeans for informal news bulletins.

Since confirming she was expecting her first child in early April, the Five News presenter has continued to get about in high heels.

Natasha became Britain's highest-paid newsreader when Five lured her from the BBC in a £1million-a-year deal.

She boosted viewer figures by 72 per cent when she started on the channel earlier this year.

Shortly after, she announced she was expecting a baby with banker husband Justin Bower.

The Strictly Come Dancing winner is expected to take maternity leave from next month, but will not receive a penny in maternity pay because she was hired as a freelance.
