Sir Mick Jagger has defended himself against criticisms from his former wife that he was "tight" with money during their marriage.

The 63-year-old Rolling Stone said claims by Jerry Hall, the mother of four of his seven children, that she paid the bulk of the family's expenses were "absurd".

Hall, 50, said in an interview at the weekend: "He always wanted me to pay everything to do with the house and the children which I didn't mind, I guess, because I had the money.

But yeah, he's pretty tight with the day-to-day stuff."

Sir Mick told The Times: "I find her remarks absurd. I have always paid all expenses for the children as well as the lion's share of the costs relating to her lifestyle, and been more than happy to do so."

The couple married in a Hindu ceremony in Bali in 1990 but Hall filed for divorce in 1999 after Jagger fathered a child by Brazilian model Luciana Morad.

Last month, Forbes magazine said it believed Hall won between 15 to 25 million US dollars (£7.5 to £12.5 million) in the divorce settlement.

Jagger, worth an estimated 325 million US dollars (£162.5 million) at the time according to the magazine, had challenged the legality of their Balinese wedding.

Jagger now lives with another model girlfriend, L'Wren Scott.
