Once upon a time, there was a man called George Best, who was a very, very talented football player. Now, one day, an evil fairy put a curse on him. The curse was called alcoholism.

Even when a good fairy came along and pronounced, 'You shall have a new liver', the curse could never be banished, and poor George had to spend the rest of his days keeping the evil curse at bay as best he could.

If you believe in fairy tales, you'll love this one. George Best signs copies of Scoring At Half Time (Ebury, £17.99).

  • Wed 27 Aug, Books Etc, Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, Cabot Place East, E14 (020-7513 0060).
