Sir Paul McCartney's wife is to have surgery on her pelvis this month after she suffered problems caused by having a baby.

Heather Mills McCartney, 37, has been in constant pain since the birth of Beatrice Milly in October 2003.

The former model lost the lower half of her left leg after she was hit by a police motorcycle in West London 12 years ago.

The accident shattered her pelvis. Surgeons reconstructed it and used a metal plate to hold it in place.

But during the final stages of pregnancy the weight of her unborn child dislodged the plate.

She will now have a new lightweight plate fitted to her pelvis.
