Love Island star Kaz Crossley has been jailed in the United Arab Emirates on suspicion of drug offences, according to a new report.

The influencer, 28, who appeared in 2018’s installment of the ITV2 series, was allegedly detained at Abu Dhabi airport in transit for a flight to Thailand.

It is believed that the star’s arrest has come off the back of a video shot in November 2020 at a party in Dubai, another Emirate in the UAE, while the UK was in lockdown.

The British government’s website outlines that the UAE has “zero tolerance for drugs-related offences”.

It states, “Possession of even the smallest amount of illegal drugs can lead to a minimum three-month prison term or a fine not less than AED 20,000 [£4,561] and not exceeding AED100,000 [£22,805]”.

According to The Sun, the reality star wasn’t permitted to call her family when she was detained, instead was only allowed to send a single email.

A source told the publication: “She was looking forward to getting back to Thailand where she has been doing voluntary work and all of a sudden she is languishing in a Dubai jail.”

“She was allowed to send just one email and wasn’t even allowed to make a phone call.

“She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drugs offences. The arrest wasn’t because of anything she had on her. As far as we know it is all down to that video.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said in a statement to the outlet: “We are in contact with the local authorities following the arrest of a British national in the United Arab Emirates.”

The influencer found fame on 2018’s Love Island when she coupled up with Josh Denzel

Crossley found fame on Love Island in 2018 when she entered as a new bombshell in Casa Amor and struck up a connection with Josh Denzel, who had previously been in a couple with Georgia Steel.

Their pairing resulted in one of the show’s most dramatic recoupling ceremonies to date when Crossley and Denzel returned to the main villa together.

The Standard has contacted Kaz Crossley’s rep for comment.
