Throngs of screaming fans strain for a glimpse of the stars of the penultimate film in the Twilight movie series at its premiere in Los Angeles.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and other cast members were mobbed as they arrived at the Nokia Theatre in downtown LA to promote the fourth instalment in the franchise - Breaking Dawn: Part One.

Many waited for days in a bid to meet the stars of the vampire fantasy series and large crowds are expected for the UK premiere at Westfield Stratford in London tomorrow.

The last two films in the series have had record-breaking ticket sales, though the final instalment, Breaking Dawn: Part Two, will not be released until next year.

Pattinson and Stewart, 25, who play lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in the film, arrived together and posed for the cameras with their arms wrapped tightly around one another. Much of the attention in the lead-up to the film's release has centred on the sex scene the couple filmed together. Pattinson admitted: "It's weird, kind of disgusting."
