Noel Gallagher today revealed the demise of Oasis began when his brother Liam tried to advertise his clothing range at their gigs.

The 44-year-old guitarist and main songwriter of the band was speaking for the first time about why he quit the band after a stormy argument in Paris in August 2009.

He walked out after a now-infamous fight with his brother that ended with one of Liam's guitars being smashed.

Speaking at a press conference today, where he revealed details of his upcoming solo work, Noel said: "I never had enough of Oasis. I had enough of Liam.

"It kind of started to unravel when he started his clothing label [Pretty Green]. He demanded that he be allowed to advertise in the Oasis tour programme. I didn't think it was right for him to be flogging his gear to our fans. There was a massive row about that. It slowly went downhill from there."

The fight happened shortly after the band pulled out of their appearance at V Festival in 2009, when Liam claimed he had laryngitis.

Noel added: "We didn't turn up at the V Festival gig because he had a hangover. He claimed it was laryngitis. There was a lot of bad press around that and in his own head he thinks I'm some kind of puppet master who controls the media in Britain.

"We got to Paris and he started shouting in the dressing room and he was quite violent. For whatever reason he went to his own dressing room and got his guitar, which he was wielding like an axe. It was a really unnecessary violent act, swinging it around. He nearly took my face off. It ended up in the floor and I put it out of its misery.

"The other people from the band were saying nothing. I said, you know what, I'm f***ing out of here. I regret it because we only had two gigs left of the tour. We should have finished it and then talked about things afterwards.

"At the end of the day, he doesn't like me in a violent way. He takes it to a level where there's no point being in the band."

Noel today announced he has recorded two solo albums. The first, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, will be released in October when he will also begin a world tour. The second, as yet unnamed album, will be released next year.
