Little Britain star Matt Lucas has thrown his hat into the ring to play Doctor Who, his partner Kevin McGee has revealed.

Both current Doctor Who David Tennant and the show's executive producer Russell T Davies have been tight-lipped about who will play the Doctor in the fourth series.

Speaking at the premiere for series three of Doctor Who last night, Kevin said Matt would love to be in the long-running show.

Kevin said: "I think he would like to be the Doctor and, yes, I can see him playing that role. He (Matt) would love to be in Doctor Who and I would love him to as well."

Kevin said starring in a Doctor Who was a "complete dream" but added: "Unfortunately I lack any acting talent. I would have to be behind the scenes if anything."

Kevin arrived at the London premiere without his partner Matt Lucas.
