She may be just 36 but in the fickle world of pop music that makes her a veteran.

And yesterday Kylie Minogue celebrated her durability by receiving a lifetime achievement award.

The Australian singer was handed the accolade at the Smash Hits Poll Winners' Party 2004 at Wembley Arena for her 17-year contribution to the music business.

Since making her name in Neighbours, she has had 31 hit singles including I Should Be So Lucky.

She also revealed yesterday that she is ready to settle down with boyfriend of two years, Oliver Martinez. Minogue said she did not want to rush into marriage but confessed that she was feeling broody.

She added: 'Most of my fans want motherhood to happen for me. If and when it happens, then great!'

Britney Spears, who recently married dancer Kevin Federline,was nominated in seven Smash Hits categoriesbut won nothing. Instead, former S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens was named best dressed and most fanciable female.

Boy band Busted won three awards but their rivals McFly ( pictured above) won five, including star of the year best UK band and best single for Five Colours In Her Hair.

The band's Danny Jones, who was named most fanciable male, said: 'I'd like to thank everyone that voted and my mum and dad.'
