Model Kate Moss has been dropped from a planned advertising campaign for the fashion store H&M following drug allegations, it was disclosed today

The clothing and cosmetics giant said in a statement that it would cancel a future campaign with the 31-year-old model.

The decision follows newspaper claims that Moss had snorted cocaine.

In a statement the chain said: "H&M will cancel the planned advertising campaign with model Kate Moss.

"H&M is strongly against drug abuse and for many years has actively supported the drug preventing organisation Mentor Foundation.

"After having evaluated the situation, H&M has decided that a campaign with Kate Moss is inconsistent with H&M's clear dissociation of drugs."

Today's decision by H&M comes after the chain earlier condemned drug abuse but reportedly said it was willing to give the model another chance.

Reports in The Sun newspaper yesterday said the supermodel had ended her nine-month relationship with Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty following allegations in a Sunday paper of her involvement in lesbian affairs and years of cocaine abuse.

The supermodel makes millions from lucrative deals with companies including Burberry, Dior and Chanel.

Moss is also the face of Rimmel, a make-up brand targeted at teenage girls, and has two years left to run on her contract.

In 1998, she had a spell in the Priory clinic after her party lifestyle took its toll.

Talking during an interview with David Bowie two years ago, Moss said she had given up drugs.

A spokeswoman for Chanel said today: "We have absolutely no comment to make."

A spokeswoman at Christian Dior also declined to comment in the wake of H&M's decision.
