Pop hunk Justin Timberlake has instructed his solicitors to sue the News of the World for libel after the newspaper reported he had been unfaithful to superstar girlfriend Cameron Diaz.

The tabloid ran a story last weekend claiming model Lucy Clarkson had bedded the singer while he was in London performing his 'Justified' tour.

Timberlake and Diaz, who have been dating for just over a year, have constantly denied claims of a split.

Diaz was reportedly so upset by the tabloid's claims that she contacted American celebrity magazine Us Weekly herself to rebuff Clarkson's story.

In a cover story that ran with the headline: 'Justin didn't cheat on me,' Diaz told the magazine: "It's hurtful to everyone involved."

The ex-boyfriend of Britney Spears has now issued media lawyers Schillings to issue libel proceedings after the NOTW refused to retract the story headlined 'Trousersnake did dirty on Diaz'.

The paper stands by its story, with a spokesperson insisting, "[We] will vigorously defend these proceedings in court."
