Justin Timberlake says he is “gutted” after being forced to cancel his special free gig in London with less than 24 hours of notice due to sickness.

The singer, 43, had been due to take to the stage at The Roundhouse in Camden on Friday night for a one-off intimate show, but announced to his devastated fans the night before that it was off.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Thursday, the Cry Me A River hit-maker uploaded a video message in which he explained that he had flu and undeniably sounded rough.

He said: “This is an unfortunate video I have to send out. But I’m sure you can tell from the sound of things that I am not going to be able to make it to the show on Friday, which I’m gutted about.

“I’ve been here in London all week and was so excited to perform Roundhouse. But… I’ve been battling some kind of bug and I thought it was getting better but it took a turn for the worse.”

The dad-of-two is appearing on The Graham Norton show on Friday night, which was pre-recorded during the week, and admitted even that was touch and go, but he “was able to power through”.

By Thursday however, the situation was looking bleak, with Timberlake saying he “woke up feeling worse than ever”.

He went on to say that “maybe next time” he would get to perform at the iconic Camden venue, but said he feels “terrible” and added “I hope none of you get this flu”. It’s not all doom and gloom for fans however as on Friday morning, Timberlake announced new UK tour dates for later this year.

Timberlake – who has also just released new single Drown – will perform in Birmingham, Manchester and London in August 2024 as part of his His Forget Tomorrow World Tour.

The European leg of his tour will also see him take in dates across Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden and France.

Tickets for the tour go on sale at 10 on March 1, followed by new album Everything I Thought It Was on March 15. The record marks his sixth studio album and his first in six years after Man of the Woods in 2018.
