Comic Jimmy Carr has offered to play a charity gig after causing a furore with a joke about wounded British troops.

During a weekend show in Manchester, he said: "Say what you like about servicemen amputees from Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're going to have a f***ing good Paralympic team in 2010." Carr, 37, said he would take part in an event for the charity Help For Heroes to make amends.

It emerged today that he may have picked up the joke at the MoD's rehabilitation centre Headley Court, where he has spent time visiting injured troops.
