Jerry Seinfeld has joked that Hugh Grant was a “pain in the arse” to work with on their Netflix film Unfrosted - detailing how they bonded over a boozy dinner.

The pair both star in the upcoming production that sees Grant play a struggling Shakespearean actor who is forced to take work as the Frosties mascot Tony the Tiger.

Seinfeld is making his directorial debut in the 1960s-set film and also plays a Kellog’s boss who helps manufacture the pop tart, which became an American breakfast staple.

Grant’s character is - if you can excuse the pun - a little frosty, and Seinfeld said the actor himself came with a warning of being a handful on set.

“He tells you before you work with him, 'You're gonna hate this,’ and he's so right,” Seinfeld said on the Jimmy Fallon talk show.

“We had lots of fights. He's a pain in the arse to work with. He's horrible.”

Seinfeld made the comments with a lot of sarcasm and described the pair having a dinner after they wrapped.

“We shot for 10 weeks, and that night that he and I had dinner – and we got drunk having dinner – that was the greatest night,” he said.

“Because he's so cool, and he's that English thing, you know, that witty. He looks good in a jacket … he's one of those guys. I love those guys.”

Seinfeld has roots in stand-up but has made a name for himself with his 1990s eponymous sitcom and has also written, produced and starred in Bee Movie.

He added that Grant’s name did not come to mind for the part but he ultimately ended up auditioning the British actor over the phone.

“So he did an audition on his phone – with a glass of wine in the other hand, by the way. Like I care what the audition was. I go: '’Yeah, sure, you're Tony the Tiger, sure.'”
