Javier Bardem's terrifying new villain hunts Johnny Depp in first Pirates of the Caribbean 5 trailer

Fans have been given a first glimpse of Javier Bardem's terrifying new villain in the new Pirates of the Caribbean 5 trailer.

The Oscar-winner, who plays ghostly Captain Salazar, is seen in action as the character for the first time as Disney dropped the eagerly-awaited teaser for Dead Men Tell No Tales on Sunday night.

Pursing Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in the clip, the villainous captain says:

“Find Sparrow for me. And relay a message from Captain Salazar. Tell him death comes straight for him.”

Setting a chilling and much darker tone, Bardem’s character takes centre stage in the first trailer, which seems to be similar in tone to Curse of the Black Pearl.

Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the first film in the franchise since 2011 will also see the return of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner who last appeared in the third film, At World’s End.

Dead Men Tell No Tales has been in the pipeline for years and was famously plagued with scheduling difficulties and push-backs.

Depp is also thought to have stalled filming when he was forced to fly to from Australia to the US after suffering a hand injury – after an alleged row with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is out in cinemas in May 2017.
