First it was Cheryl Tweedy laying into her fellow Wags. And now another singer with a footballer boyfriend - Jamelia - says she cannot stand the shopping-focused lifestyle of the England wives and girlfriends.

She said: 'Footballers' wives don't do anything. All they do is spend their boyfriends' money.

'Their priorities are all wrong - you never see them with their kids, just with shopping bags. I have more respect for women who make their own money and aren't dependent on a man.'

However, just like Tweedy, the 25-year-old was not so harsh on some of the Wags who spent the World Cup in a whirlwind of shopping and champagne.

Wag-in-chief Victoria Beckham was excused because 'she's a businesswoman', Tweedy was spared because she 'has a job' and Coleen McLoughlin is OK because she has 'actually started to do something with her fame'.

After her troubled relationship with Terry Allen, the father of her first child Teja, Jamelia said she still finds it hard to trust men. This has put a strain on her current relationship with Birmingham City footballer Darren Byfield.

'It took a lot of time for him to persuade me he was a good guy,' she told Cosmopolitan magazine.

But she was willing to go without painkillers for the birth of their child Tiani as a 'romantic gesture' to him.

She said: 'It was just the most awful thing ever. I was telling people to f*** off, which is so not me.'

Her third album is out in the autumn. The full interview is in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, which is out today.
