ITV is bringing back 'Stars in Their Eyes'.

The broadcaster - which axed the popular entertainment show five years ago - is working on a new version of the programme, in which celebrities and members of the public dress up to perform as their idols, but with an added twist.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "Basically this is 'Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes' with an additional guessing element.

"Instead of the star coming out and saying, 'I'm going to be...' they perform a song and the audience has to work out who they are. They're tweaking the old show and calling it 'Guess The Star'. "

Earlier this month, programme chiefs shot a pilot episode in Manchester, which saw TV presenter Nicky Campbell impersonate Liam Gallagher.

An unnamed audience member described the DJ's performance as the Beady Eye and former Oasis singer as "hilarious".

'Stars in Their Eyes' - which has been hosted by Leslie Crowther, Matthew Kelly and Cat Deeley - ran from 1990 until 2006 and at its peak attracted audiences of up to 13 million.
