Hollywood icon Johnny Depp thrilled fans with his guitar work, when he caught up with old mates from rock band The Kid at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach.

The occasion was for the Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert in memory of Ms Witkin, a catalyst supporter of rock music in South Florida.

Fans were kept waiting until after midnight today to find out whether Depp could keep up with the Kids' guitar-centred power pop - and he impressed amid screams from the packed floor.

The Kids played in South Florida clubs during the 1980s.

Away from the music stage, Depp is well-known for his portrayal of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean and more recently as Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd: The demon barber of Fleet Street.

Depp has also been working on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus with the late Heath Ledger, and is rumoured to be playing Wallace in Sin City 3.
