When he was suspended by the Thames in a glass box he had eggs and golf balls pelted at him.

But illusionist David Blaine won't have to worry about that for his next stunt as it involves him spending a week under water.

Separate tubes will provide him with air and nutrition inside a speciallybuilt 2.4m-high aquarium inside New York's Lincoln Center.

At the end of the challenge the 33-year-old will try to break the world record for holding breath underwater, which stands at eight minutes 58 seconds.

Despite his rough ride in London in 2003, Blaine is happy for visitors to touch the aquarium, take photos and talk to him.

The stunt, billed as David Blaine: Drowned Alive, begins on Monday.
