Lady Gaga has revealed she feels "perpetually lonely" in her most revealing interview — and photoshoot — to date.

The Poker Face singer bared all for Vanity Fair magazine as she confessed: "I'm lonely when I'm in relationships. It's my condition as an artist. I'm drawn to bad romances. And my song [Bad Romance] is about whether I go after those [sort of relationships] or if they find me. I'm quite celibate now; I don't really get time to meet anyone."

The 24-year-old, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, also spoke of her drugs use in 2005, when she regularly abused cocaine after dropping out of a music course at New York University to find fame. She said: "I was completely mental ... I don't want my fans to think they have to be that way to be great. It was a low point, and it led to disaster."

The full interview appears in the September issue of Vanity Fair, which is on sale on Friday.
