This new animated series from Steve Coogan's production company can be firmly filed in the bin marked "Great Idea...Shame About The Programme".

You can imagine the makers chuckling to themselves as they dreamt up the story of a group of animals in the vivisection lab. They (the animals, not the programme-makers) live a life of luxury and have been thought to talk - so they now say pompous phrases like "Is this Chianti corked?".

But that alone is not funny enought to sustain a programme. Nor is the fact that animal-rights activists on their way to rescue the creatures swerve to avoid a hedgehog and plough into an otter sanctuary.

There is certianly a dark thread running thorugh the script, and the deliberately clumsy animation has a surreal feel. But, overall, this is nowhere near as clever as it would like to think it is.
