When he spoke to the Daily Mail last month, Les Dennis said he was "the happiest and most contented I've ever been in my life".

But while the comedian may be overjoyed at becoming at father again at the age of 54, it's clear that having a 12-day-old baby to care for is taking its toll.

Pride and joy: Les Dennis cradles baby Eleanor outside a London restaurant

Here you are sleepyhead: Les' partner Claire hands over Eleanor

He looked as though he hadn't had a proper night's sleep in ages as he cuddled little Eleanor Grace during brunch with his partner of two years, life coach Claire Nicholson, 37.

Dennis had dutifully pushed a sleeping Eleanor - who arrived on April 24 weighing 8lb 11oz - a mile uphill to a restaurant in Highgate, North London.

A fellow diner said: "They were there for about an hour. The baby was asleep in the pram for the first half an hour. But about halfway through, she woke up and started crying to be fed.

"Claire got the baby out and handed her to him. Les kind of gestured to get up to take the baby from her.

"It was almost as if he couldn't get out of his seat. She came over and passed the baby down to him.

"And he just remained there slumped in his chair. Eventually, after the baby had been fed, Les got up and walked around with her in his arms.

"Generally, Les just looked really worn out. Claire, on the other hand, looked great."

While Eleanor is Claire's first child, Dennis has a 28-year-old son from his first marriage.

He later married actress Amanda Holden but they announced their separation in December 2002 after seven years together.
