Glamour girls Danielle Lloyd and Bianca Gascoigne go toe to manicured toe on the Celebrity version of revived show Gladiators.

With their hair scraped back in practical ponytails, the girls looked surprisingly tough and athletic as they prepared to do battle with the tough Gladiators - many of them former athletes.

Both worked out hard in preparation for the challenge, and Bianca in particular seemed keen to get stuck in, as she took on a Gladiator in 'Hanging Tough' - where contenders play a game of cat and mouse on the hooped hanging rings.

While Danielle attributed her recent trimmed down physique to gruelling training sessions which she signed up for after agreeing to star as a contender on the show.

The former Miss Great Britain said: “I was so excited when I was asked to do the show.

'I remember watching Gladiators every Saturday night when I was a kid. I never thought that one day I would be a contender myself.

'Preparing for the Gladiator show was very hard as I am not used to going to the gym, but I new I had to put the effort in as the Gladiators were massive.

'They all had huge muscles and were very fast.

'By the end of it my hands were cut to pieces and my ankle took a hammering but all the hard work was worth it for such a good cause.'

The big hearted model, who is rumoured to be dating Gladiator Tornado, aka David McIntosh, 22, also took the punishment from the Gladiators in the name of charity.

She pledged her appearance fee to buy a second scanner for the Linda McCartney Breast Cancer Centre.

The former Miss England has already donated £58,500 which was matched pound for pound by Barclays Bank to buy the special scanner at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

It allows doctors to identify and diagnose cancerous tissue within minutes.

Having been treated at the hospital for a lump found on her breast, Danielle has kept her pledge to give something back by working for the charity.

She said: "This charity is very close to my heart because a few years ago I found a lump in my breast.

"The unit really needs another scanner so the money I have just made from my stint on Gladiators will buy the second one.

Bianca and Danielle's appearance can be seen in the autumn.

Meanwhile original Gladiators Wolf, Lightning, Flame, Hunter, Trojan, Ace, Rebel & Rocket have filmed a show competing as special contenders against the might of the new Gladiators.

The 'Legends Special' is expected to be broadcast as the last episode in the current series on Sky One sometime in August 2008.

Gladiators is on Sky One, Sundays, at 6pm.
