Jonathan Ross faced a new call to quit today after the family of an Alzheimer's sufferer reacted with horror to a sex joke.

He's back: Jonathan Ross defended gag

The disgraced broadcaster marked his return to his BBC Radio 2 show with a gag about having sex with a woman of 80.

He insisted it was an off-the-cuff remark that wasn't directed at a real person, and no offence had been intended. But today Francisca Guzman's son claimed his mother, who is 86 and has dementia, was the butt of the joke.

Jose Maria Moreno said: "My mother's mental health should not be a subject for comedy and Ross should be sacked. What he said is unforgivable and offensive. I don't understand how he can continue working for an organisation like the BBC."

The remarks came on Ross's Saturday radio show, after his three-month suspension over the Andrew Sachs lewd phone calls scandal with Russell Brand. Ross and his producer Andy Davies were discussing how they had spent their time during the suspension.

Mr Davies, 43, said he had been at his villa in Spain and was grabbed by a woman aged about 80. He said: "There's a woman in the village who's getting on a bit, keeps trying to kiss me. Older woman, very older woman. She keeps grabbing me." Ross declared: "Eighty, oh God! I think you should, just for charity. Give her one last night, will you? One last night before the grave. Would it kill you?"

Mrs Guzman wasn't named but is wellknown in the Andalusian village of Conchar, where Mr Davies has his villa. Ross was quoted as saying yesterday: "As far as I was concerned, the story may even have been apocryphal."
