It's Friday! So what does London have on offer to make your weekend start with a bang? Well there's sumptuous free food from Carluccios, designer labels on sale for the boys and it's Pacha's second birthday for starters. Thirsty? Check out the pumping Thirst Bar on Greek Street.

Pick of the Night

See You Next Tuesday
7.30pm, Albery Theatre, WC2. £12.50-38.50. Tube: Leicester Square.
A successful Parisian publisher likes to spice up his smug dinner parties by inviting the most stupid person he can find; tonight he surpasses himself, digging up a prize-winning buffoon for his guests' entertainment. However, this one proves to be a little more than he bargained for ... The cast includes Ardal O'Hanlon, Nigel Havers and Patsy Kensit, and while it has been sneered at by the critics, it's packing in the coach parties.

The Human League
8pm, Fairfield Halls, Croydon. £21.50. Rail: East Croydon.
Phil Oakey and the girls seem to encapsulate everything good about pure pop. With a host of new bands proudly bearing their synthy imprint, the League haven't been this cool since their early 1980s heyday. They play Shepherds Bush Empire next Thursday, but here is a great opportunity to catch them before that date sells out. This promises to be much more than a nostalgia trip.

Film

Intermission
Across London. Part thriller, part comedy, part drama - this Irish gem starring Colin Farrell belies its low budget. Fantastic acting and direction make it a pick of the year.

Young Adam
8.50pm, Riverside Studios Cinema, W6. £5.50 (£4.50 concs).
Tube: Hammersmith. Scottish squalor with Ewan McGregor getting his kit off (again) as filthy lothario Joe in this creeping, atmospheric movie.

Shows

Betrayal
7.30pm, Duchess Theatre, WC2. £22.50-£37.50. Tube: Covent Garden. Pinter's study of a woman's affair with her husband's best friend - played backwards. A terse triangle of jealousy, hurt and friendship.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
7.30pm, London Palladium, W1. £10-£42.50, Tube: Oxford Circus. Boasting magnificent design and the jauntiest tunes in town, Adrian Noble's production is a sumptuous family feast.

Music

Iron Maiden
7.30pm, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, SW5. £27.50. Tube: Earl's Court. There's still room left if you want to catch the old headbangers, below, who are reaching a whole new generation of fans.

Events

Carluccio's Italian Christmas Market
Nash Court, E14. FREE! Tube: Canary Wharf.
Whole roast pig, porcini mushroom pies and risotto are on offer outside Carluccio's sumptuous delicatessen.

DWS Men's Designer Sale
Until 8pm, The Worx, Balfe Street, N1. £2. Tube: King's Cross.
Huge discounts on the top labels. And there's a ladies-underwear section for thoughtful boyfriends.

Food & Drink

Thirst Bar
53 Greek Street, W1. £5 cover after 10pm. Tube: Leicester Square. Absolutely pumping on a Friday night. Happy hour till 9pm.

Bodean's BBQ
10 Poland Street, W1. Meal for two with wine: £60. Tube: Oxford Circus.
Skip lunch to make room for slabs of meat the size of Texas.

Clubs

Pacha's 2nd Birthday
Pacha, Terminus Place, SW1. 10pm-6am, £15 (£12 concs). Tube: Victoria. The Ibiza superclub's transition to this desirable postcode has been a big hit. Features Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez.

Fabriclive
9.30pm-5am, Fabric, Charterhouse Street, EC1. £12 (£10 concs). Tube: Farringdon.
Andy C, Hype and Grooverider rinse drum 'n' bass while trippy rockers Secret Machines work in a set before UNKLE rip it up.

... and for free

Up and Coming Composers

National Portrait Gallery, WC2. FREE! Tube: Leicester Square.
Oliver Coates (cello) and Tomono Kawamura (piano) play contemporary British compositions.
