When Flaminio Drove To France: Flaminio Bertoni At Citroen

The Citroen 2CV is considered as French as berets and baguettes, but its designer was Italian. Flaminio Bertoni eloped to Paris in 1931 with the woman whom his mother had forbidden him to marry. A year later he was hired by Citroen, an inspired collaboration that lasted until his death in 1964. Among the classic cars on show are the curvaceous DS19 - known as 'the goddess' - and the Traction Avant, sketched out in a single night. Fri 1 Aug-Sun 12 Oct, Design Museum, 28 Shad Thames, SE1 (0870 833 9955).
