Rock star Pete Doherty had a charge of driving under the influence of drugs dropped yesterday.

The Babyshambles singer was not in court to hear the allegation withdrawn due to lack of evidence.

Prosecutor Mark Tavender told Thames magistrates: 'Doherty, 26, was arrested last month after he and four others got out of a blue Vauxhall. But it could not be proved he was driving as keys on him did not match the car.'

The singer is on remand in prison after admitting possessing heroin.
