Crystal Harris decided to call off her wedding to Hugh Hefner because she had been having "second thoughts" for some time.

The 25-year-old blonde beauty and the 85-year-old Playboy magazine founder cancelled their nuptials just days before the ceremony was due to take place on Saturday, and the model has revealed she had been wracked with doubts about the marriage before the decision was made.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show she said: "I called it off because I didn't think it was the right thing for me to do ... For a while I've been having second thoughts about everything. I haven't really been at peace with myself lately. I didn't think it was really fair to him."

Crystal is adamant the decision to cancel the nuptials was made jointly by her and Hugh and there was no fight, as had been reported, they just "talked about it".

One thing that added to Crystal's anxieties was that the wedding was going to be filmed by US TV network Lifetime for a special programme on their big day.

She said: "They were gonna air a show on it. It was all happening too fast for me. I just thought about it and thought, 'Was this what I wanted?' "

Despite what has happened, Crystal - who embarrassingly appears on the front cover of the new issue of Playboy next to the tag line "America's Princess, Introducing Mrs. Crystal Hefner" - firmly believes they will remain friends in the future.

She added: "We both agreed that it's not in the cards for us. We had a long talk about it. I feel happy and at peace that everything will be OK, and I respect him more than anything, and we're still going to be really close."

Since the split, Hugh - who has been married twice before - has been comforted by his ex-girlfriends Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, who once jointly lived with him at the Playboy Mansion.

He revealed: "Bridget Marquardt came by to give me her loving support. Very dear."

While mother-of-one Kendra - who is now married to NFL player Hank Baskett - wrote on her twitter page: "We r comin over w some jack n coke. Oh, n a pipe lol."
