Wayne Rooney's fiancee Coleen McLoughlin was named queen of the high street in a fashion awards ceremony

She beat competition from Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker to scoop the title of best dressed female star in high street fashion.

Coleen's well-documented fashion antics include large shopping sprees and an appearance in Vogue magazine.

A panel of judges shortlisted her for the title, along with Myleene Klass, Denise Van Outen and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Members of the public had the vote in a poll organised by Closer magazine and GMTV.

Closer editor Jane Johnson said readers identified with England footballer Wayne Rooney's fiancee more than Sarah Jessica Parker.

"I think they relate more to Coleen because she is more their type of person," she said.

"She has become increasingly more stylish and sassy and certainly in her column she is always recommending the high street looks that she wears.

"She's very into Warehouse and Topshop and finding a look that is achievable and that all girls can copy."

Coleen was named winner at the first Ariel Fashion Awards ceremony in association with GMTV and Closer magazine held in London last night.

Oasis beat rival chain Topshop to win the best trendsetter award. Footwear chain Faith won the title of best women's shoe collection.

Clothes retailer Coast took the award for the best premium collection, while the best wardrobe essentials title went to Dorothy Perkins.

A shortlist for the awards was picked by GMTV's fashion stylist Mark Heyes, fashion expert Caryn Franklin, Closer editor Jane Johnson and model Nancy Sorrell.
